by<\/p><p>baguette dipped in au lait,<br \/>the gaiety of ladies,<br \/>quaint convents.<\/p><p>True, we walked a good leg<br \/>of the Swiss <em>Jakobsweg<br \/><\/em>on our eighteenth<\/p><p>anniversary, and the souvenir<br \/>monastery beer stein is<br \/>here to prove it.<\/p><p>But the principal stamps are still<br \/>absent from our Camino<br \/>passports.<\/p><p>The scallop shell still draped<br \/>on your pack has<br \/>been battered<\/p><p>in transit, but not en route<br \/>to Compostela. Its remaining<br \/>ribs mark paths<\/p><p>that point to the ground here beneath<br \/>our feet. Are we merely<br \/>cheating? Has<\/p><p>Saint James called us away along<br \/>another route?
