He\u2019s napping<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now and that means we should leave.<\/p><p>His feather-heavy wings are the same blue<br \/>As the chair. Quietly, we leave the room<br \/>Like dancers in a Degas painting, waiting<br \/>There for our cue. She nods to me, her feet<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A pointed pair of arrows.<\/p><p>She sets the table and makes meals from air,<br \/>Then shares it all with me, not stopping until<br \/>I\u2019m full. She doesn\u2019t know it\u2019s the best thing<br \/>I\u2019ve tasted in weeks\u2014nor has she yet known<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The gnaw of other hungers.<\/p><p>The pavement outside is on fire, melting<br \/>In inky slivers, so we tap-dance on<br \/>The tar and take our refuge on a rock<br \/>Where\u2014last time\u2014she received a scar. But now,<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It will become her kingdom.<\/p><p>Announcing her true majesty, the bluebird<br \/>Picks up his song, and pale evening light halos<br \/>Her head. And all the living and the dead<br \/>Cry out.
