See the beams we gathered ten hands to hang,<\/p>

triangular trusses the rain threatened<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

to keep grounded? See the old oak claimed<\/p>

from the deserted farmhouse, weathered<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

by earth and storms? We\u2019ll turn this warped<\/p>

roof into three attic rooms and the stairs<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

coming up we\u2019ll shift, replace with solid steps\u2014<\/p>

not the ones you can see through.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

When you drove in, did you get stuck in the mud ruts<\/p>

running from the farm road to the barn?<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Did you see the thousand white water birds come<\/p>

roosting just outside of town\u2014the ones that will leave<\/p>

in a cloud just as they\u2019ve come? Come rest a while<\/p>

on these paint cans and fill me in, but watch out<\/p>

for that hole there between the boards\u2014<\/p>
