Perhaps it\u2019s the way this dead-end road<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 suggests an arrival\u2014<\/p>

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>

the sense of stepping<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 from a swift current<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

into spring\u2019s green heart, this overgrown plot<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 where water\u2019s taught itself lift<\/em><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

has learned leaf<\/em> and flourish<\/em>, leaned into breeze and bloomed<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 lush rooms like this one,<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

where birds<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 chatter from so many<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

sides it seems the color green<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is singing: the tasseled grass<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

so improbably tall its feathered<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 crowns nod at my shoulders,<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

while the old oaks stir<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 in the arms of their leaves\u2014<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Perhaps it\u2019s the brazen hopefulness of the world<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 just now reviving and already<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

reckless again for life,<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as if life were always<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

worth what it costs us. Suddenly<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 this is where I believe<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

you\u2019ll come back.<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 While I face the white choir of a wild rose,<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

you step close behind me in your quiet way,<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 extend a hand toward my shoulder\u2014<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

\u2014I\u2019m waiting to feel it.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To hear you say my name.<\/p>
