You left, as all do
but you went gently. You\u00a0
did not rage, that was\u00a0
out of your system, spilled\u00a0
onto your family through\u00a0
the years. You smoothed\u00a0
and mellowed. It was almost\u00a0<\/p>

sudden. Your calm, brown\u00a0
eyes shimmering, happy,\u00a0
content resting, not needing\u00a0
to move, no hurry\u00a0
distracting you from mere\u00a0
being. Your gentling more\u00a0
than simply the nudge<\/p>

of nascent dementia.
Prickly edges dulled,\u00a0
worn tired, softened until\u00a0
you could slip into that good\u00a0
night, or, as it happened,\u00a0
late afternoon when you
set out toward
