The Spirit of '43

A cocktail for the end of the world.

From the Editors

2 oz. Bas Armagnac with vanilla notes, such as Marie Duffau Napoléon

1 oz. Cuarenta y Tres (Licor 43)

½ tablespoon fresh-squeezed lemon juice

1 bar spoon yellow Chartreuse

1 tablespoon whole coffee beans, semi-sweet and fruity, such as Ethiopian Harrar

Twist of lemon peel, for garnish

 

  1. Add all ingredients, except for garnish, to a cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake and swirl for a full minute, gently, without breaking the coffee beans.
  3. Add ice until shaker is full, then, tip shaker back and forth gently to chill the drink.
  4. Strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.
  5. Garnish with lemon twist, and enjoy.
